Recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s natural and cultural heritage, the landscape of the mountain offers unique geographical and climatic conditions for this special tea with unique mineral and rocky characteristics. The tea is produced by hand and is then roasted for many hours slowly over real charcoal fires. This adds a warmth, smoothness and nutty depth to the tea.

According to legend, a certain tea cured the the mother of a Ming Dynasty emperor of an illness, and that emperor sent great red robes to clothe the four bushes from which that tea originated. Three of these original bushes, growing on a rock on Mount Wuyi, reportedly date back to the Song Dynasty in terms of age and still survive today.
