About

Wuyi Mountain Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) | 武夷山大紅袍

Regarded as the king of Chinese oolong teas, Da Hong Pao (大紅袍) embodies the artistry and history of Fujian’s Wuyi Mountains. This world‑renowned rock tea grows among the cliffs of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where misty peaks, mineral‑rich rock, and cool mountain air craft a tea of exceptional depth and aroma.

A Heritage Steeped in Legend

According to Ming Dynasty legend, an emperor’s mother was miraculously cured by tea from several Wuyi bushes. Out of gratitude, he bestowed each bush with a magnificent red robe — a royal honor that gave the tea its name, “Big Red Robe.” Three of the original tea bushes, believed to date back to the Song Dynasty, still cling to the rocky cliffs of Wuyi Mountain today — living witnesses to nearly a millennium of tea history.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Every leaf of Da Hong Pao is hand‑picked and carefully roasted for hours over real charcoal fires, a traditional process passed down through generations. This patient roasting brings out silky smoothness, gentle warmth, and nutty depth, leaving a lingering mineral sweetness known as the “rock rhyme” (岩韻) that defines Wuyi teas.
