About

Silver Needle | 白毫銀針

The Emperor of White Teas

Silver Needle (Bai Hao Yin Zhen) represents the absolute highest grade in the world of white tea. As the first-grade Fuding white tea, it consists exclusively of young, unopened tea buds covered in distinctive silver-white hairs. These delicate buds are hand-picked during a brief window in early spring, before they have a chance to open into leaves. This meticulous selection process and limited harvest period make Silver Needle the most precious and sought-after of all white teas.

The Essence of Purity and Simplicity

What sets Silver Needle apart is its remarkable purity. The tea undergoes minimal processing—primarily careful withering—to preserve the natural compounds within the buds. The signature silver hairs (bai hao) are not just beautiful; they contain amino acids that contribute to the tea’s distinctive sweet, umami flavor and cooling aftertaste. When brewed, these silvery buds float gracefully in the water, slowly releasing their delicate essence.

A Symphony of Subtle Notes

The experience of drinking Silver Needle is one of refined elegance. The pale, champagne-colored liquor offers a light body with surprising complexity. You’ll discover layers of fresh honey, sweet melon, and delicate floral notes, followed by a clean, sweet finish that lingers pleasantly. Unlike more robust teas, Silver Needle whispers rather than shouts, inviting quiet contemplation with each sip.
