Phoenix Dancong (Duck Sh!t Scent)

Villagers discovered a tea cultivar in Ping Keng Tou village producing a unique and delicious taste and did not want this cultivar to be exploited by other outsiders. So they made up stories that the soil in this area was covered in duck poo (which in fact is a light, yellow-brown colour soil) in order to keep other producers away from their unique bushes. The light golden liquor has a pronounced floral profile, fruity citrus notes, and a tangy, creamy aftertaste.

Phoenix Dancong (Duck Sh!t Scent) |

“Dancong”, refers to an individual tea plant (single bush) cultivated from a variety of Shui Xian cultivars. As the sub-varietals of Shui Xian cultivars grown in the region have very different characteristics in terms of leaf and tree shape, teas made from different individual shrubs happened to develop very distinctive aromas and flavour profiles from one to the other, which explains why the oolong teas produced in the region are called as “Dancong Oolong”.
